My name is Elaine Healy and I live in the North East section of Portland, Oregon in a wonderful old Craftsman style house that was built in 1915.
In college I discovered the ceramics department and that started my love affair with clay. I was never interested in making pots, but I loved building things with my hands. My work incorporated clay with mixed media. I made various sized tiles then glazed and fired them. Eventually breaking the tiles into smaller pieces and combining them with metal, wood, glass and other found objects to make art. What I enjoyed was the process of creating something interesting out of different elements that worked together in a new way.
This is how I make my cards. I use different elements, mostly paper, but sometimes felt or fabric and put them together to form something beautiful. It may seem a strange road to travel from making art to making cards, but to me, my cards are really little art pieces, designed with love and made with care.
